The Dance we Dance
Posted by angellaricot on January 9, 2022 in Uncategorized

Time and again, I ponder why spend my precious hours
with companies that do not align with my divine purpose
and who only serve to disturb my felicity. Is it worth
the gloom that weighs on my spirit following after?

And the dance we dance in the tangled web of kinship—
an orchestra built not out of my own design. Yet out of
some twisted plot, I inherited the dance.

I must gracefully spin inside the room dancing the dance
that my mother danced and my grandmother danced
while I sip the venom poured in my cup.

Meanwhile the faithful musicians adhere to the keynotes.
To their delight, the happy spectators watch and clap.
A slight faux pas, the drink spills, the music grows tense
then the applause stops.

Oh yes, the music! The music! What's the dance without
the music? I close my eyes, that's all I hear— the music.
The same old record.

Call me Susan the contrarian, a solo dancer! I have yet new
oceans to cross, galaxies to see and my own lyrics to write.
I can never follow the rhythm.

What others say:

  1. Another beguiling poem. Betwixt and between…
You surely are dancing a different dance?
    Lovely.
    Keep writing.
Have you published a small book of poems on Amazon?

    • Hi Brenda,

I have published two books of poetry: Mirror of Souls and Who Killed the Poet?. Both are on Amazon. I have another one in the works. I appreciate that you stopped by and you enjoyed reading my poetry. Before I became a novelist I was a poet first. Poetry is my happy place, a space where I call my cocoon and where I go deep within myself to meditate and transcribe my thoughts into ink. I do seem to dance a different dance, don’t I? My poetry brings out the multi-faceted layers in me. And it’s interesting how many people I’ve met and who have told me the same thing, “Keep writing.” It means I must be doing something good. I must keep writing to honor this advice.

Thanks again for your comment and please do stop by again XX ❤️🦋
