It’s ironic, almost troublesome to watch the adulation,
the displaced worshiping of the tragedy of the old servitude.
‘Wonder if the constant rehearsal of my wounded past is
to glorify my roots or gratify the egos of the former
slaves’ masters.
I must clap along and pretend I am being amused when
it’s the same old narrative embedded with cliches and
stereotypes being portrayed at the opera designed to
keep me chained.
It seems like a twisted love story—
the runaway serf being the object of affection.
The master is weeping on a handkerchief singing
the blues while admiring the pictures of the bondsman
or woman— the long-lost Lover.
Bring in a new script with a unique perspective that would
redefine tomorrow’s history, he prefers the skeleton
to fulfill his illusion.
I crave for a renaissance, a different tale, an alternative
reality that will transport me away from the dramas
and the traumas and the exploitations, the molestations
to a world that promises a fresh start—
a new painting on tomorrow’s mural.
